HowFixes is an English-language troubleshooting site for Windows, web browsers, and the everyday software people actually get stuck on. Every guide here starts from something concrete — an error code, a settings screen, a message that will not go away — and ends with steps you can follow yourself, without opening a support ticket.
What this site covers
- Windows — update failures, stop codes and blue screens, driver and printer errors, activation problems, storage and startup issues.
- Browsers — Chrome and Edge settings, extensions, incognito behaviour, history and cache, and the sync problems that come with them.
- AI assistants — ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot: getting them set up, understanding their error messages, and using them for real work.
- Networks and devices — DNS, Wake-on-LAN, Chromecast, printers, consoles, and the connection problems in between.
How the guides are written
Each guide is written against the specific version of Windows, the browser, or the app named in the article, and the article says which version that is. Screens move between releases; when a step stops matching what you actually see, the guide is corrected rather than left in place.
Where a fix carries a real risk — editing the registry, turning off a security feature, deleting a system file, reinstalling a driver — the warning comes before the step, not buried underneath it. Where a problem has no reliable fix, the article says that too instead of padding the page with steps that will not help.
What this site does not publish
HowFixes does not publish articles promising free hardware, free subscriptions, guaranteed followers, giveaway entries, or any other incentive. Guides here are about making software you already own work the way it is supposed to. Articles of that kind that had been published in the past have been removed.
Corrections
If a step no longer matches your version of Windows or your browser, or a menu has moved, please tell us — corrections from readers are the fastest way this site stays accurate. Use the contact page and include the article and the version you are running.
How this site is funded
HowFixes is free to read and is funded by display advertising. Advertisements are labelled as such and are kept out of the middle of a set of instructions, so an ad can never be mistaken for the next step. No advertiser sees, approves, or pays for the contents of an article, and nothing on this site is a paid recommendation.
How your data is handled is set out in the privacy policy, and the terms for using the site are in the terms and conditions.
