Privacy Policy – BlockSite Extension

Last Updated: January 10, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what data the “BlockSite Block Websites & WebSilence” Chrome extension (“Extension”) collects, how it uses and protects that data. By using the Extension, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Our extension operates in two different modes and collects different types of information depending on the features you use:

a) Non-Logged-In Users (Local Storage)

When you use the extension without creating an account, all your settings are stored ONLY on your own computer in Chrome’s synchronized storage area (chrome.storage.sync). This means your settings may be synced across other computers where you are logged into your Chrome profile, but this data is not sent to our servers. The data stored in this mode includes:

  • Blocked Site List: The list of websites you choose to block.
  • Allowed Site List: The list of websites you allow access to, even if they might otherwise be blocked.
  • Blocked Keyword List: The list of words that, when found in a page’s content, will cause the page to be blocked.
  • Scheduled Rules: Rules you create to temporarily unblock specific sites at certain times.
  • Security Level: Your chosen pre-defined security level (e.g., “Young Child,” “Teen”).
  • Admin Password: A local password you can set to protect your settings.

b) Logged-In Users (Cloud Storage)

If you choose to create an account and log in through the extension, some of your information is stored on our servers (hosted on howfixes.com) to allow you to sync your settings across different devices. In this mode, in addition to the local data, the following information is collected and stored:

  • Account Information: Your email address used for registration and your password, which is securely hashed by the WordPress system. We never store your plain-text password.
  • Settings Stored on the Server: Your blocked site list, allowed site list, and chosen security level are stored on our servers and associated with your account. This allows you to access your settings from any device where you have the extension installed.
  • API Token: A unique authentication key used to secure communication between the extension and the server.

2. Browsing History

The extension’s settings page includes an “Add from History” feature to make it easier for you to add sites to your block list. This feature USES the chrome.history permission to READ and display your local browsing history to you. Your browsing history is STRICTLY NOT sent to our servers or stored by us. This process occurs entirely on your own computer.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide the core functionality of the extension, which is blocking websites and keywords based on your settings.
  • To synchronize settings between devices for logged-in users.
  • To provide and improve the features of the Extension.

Your personal information is never shared with or sold to third parties.

4. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously. For logged-in users, data is stored on secure servers, and all communication between the extension and the server is encrypted. Your password is kept in a non-readable, hashed format. We take reasonable technical and administrative measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Your continued use of the Extension signifies your acceptance of the updated policy. We will notify you of any significant changes.

6. Contact Us
