Can You Reset Your Tinder Swipes? What Actually Happens

Rewritten August 2026. The “two easy steps” this page used to describe — delete the account and make a new one — cost more than most people realise, and Tinder actively works against it. This version explains what actually happens, and what the realistic options are.

There is no reset button for Tinder swipes. You cannot un-swipe past profiles in bulk, and the only way to see people you have already passed on is either a paid rewind or starting over — which is far more destructive than it sounds.

Undo one swipe: Rewind

The only official option, and it works on the most recent swipe only.

Tap the yellow Rewind arrow immediately after a swipe.
It requires a paid tier — Tinder Plus or above.
It undoes one swipe at a time, not a session.

Useful for an accidental left swipe. No use for someone you passed on last month.

The delete-and-restart route, and what it costs

Deleting your account and creating a new one does clear your swipe history. It also:

Deletes every match and conversation permanently. There is no export and no recovery.
Loses any subscription. Tinder Plus, Gold or Platinum does not transfer, and you will be paying again.
Starts your profile from zero, including whatever algorithmic standing you had built.
May be blocked entirely. Tinder detects new accounts on the same phone number, email, device and payment method — and a rapid delete-and-recreate can result in the new account being restricted or banned rather than given a fresh start.

That last point is the one people discover afterwards. Tinder’s terms allow it to refuse accounts it identifies as recreations, and the identifiers it uses are hard to change without doing things that breach the terms outright.

If you delete an account, wait properly before creating another — weeks rather than hours — and expect that using the same phone number will still link them. Approaches involving a new number and a factory reset to evade detection are a breach of Tinder’s terms and can result in a permanent ban, which is worse than the problem you started with.

Deleting properly, if you decide to

Two different actions, and people confuse them:

Removing the app does nothing. Your profile stays visible and your subscription keeps billing.
Deleting the account is done in the app: Settings → scroll to the bottom → Delete Account.

Cancel the subscription separately first. Deleting the account does not stop the billing — that is managed by Apple or Google:

iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Android: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions.

Cancel there, confirm it has stopped, then delete the account.

What usually works better

If the reason you want a reset is that you are seeing nobody good, a new account rarely fixes it — the same profile in the same area gets similar results. What does make a difference:

Widen the distance and age range. The most common cause of an empty queue is filters that are too narrow for the population nearby.
Change your photos. The first photo does most of the work. A clear, well-lit, unobstructed face beats anything clever.
Write a real bio. Something specific enough to reply to.
Use the app consistently rather than in bursts. Long gaps do not help.
Try another app. Different apps have genuinely different populations in the same city.

Running out of likes

A separate issue people often conflate with swipe resets. Free accounts have a daily like limit that resets on a rolling twelve-hour cycle. Nothing resets it early; waiting or paying are the only options.
