If winver reports 22621 or lower, the machine has not received a security update in a long time. That is the problem to solve.
What KB5022363 was
An optional preview update for Windows 11 22H2, released at the end of January 2023 — the kind Microsoft ships in the last week of the month for anyone who opts in. Its contents reached everyone in the following Patch Tuesday release.
It carried quality fixes across the taskbar, File Explorer, search and Settings, along with reliability work. Nothing in it is distinguishable today, because everything it fixed is long since part of Windows.

Installing a specific KB by hand
If you genuinely need one package — for testing, or for an isolated machine:
- Search the KB number in the Microsoft Update Catalog.
- Match your Windows version and architecture.
- Run the
.msu.
For a machine that is simply behind, install the current cumulative update instead. Updates are cumulative, so the newest one contains every earlier fix — installing an old package leaves you exposed to everything patched since.
